Jan's Favorite Charities

My mom liked to give back.

Mom often donated to the Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance. More recently she supported Keuka Comfort Care Home....She would joke about being generous in case she ever needed a bed....She ended up living her final days in a sister (brother) home, House of John which was closer to our home.

Jan loved animals. She brought "exotic" guinea pigs to Anthony Beach by way of her classroom. During the Seneca Lake years, she was a kitty mom to the Pina Colada sisters (Pineapple and Coconut--aka Piney and Coco), plus she tended to Blue the Australian blue shepherd. She was a great one to offer dialogue on behalf of our nonlingual friends! She actively donated to the Humane Society of Yates County. One year she bought raffle tickets to support their opening & won 200+ dollars. She thought they needed it more than her & gave some of it back to them!

As you probably know and you can read elsewhere on this blog, Jan was a voracious reader. She was always making a library run. I don't think she ever took anything back late so I'm not sure how much she donated to them....but I can assure you I "donate" lots of quarters to our local library as I am not as accurate with my book return timing.

If you would like to donate to any of her favorite causes I will put some links here. I'm sure they will all miss her donations in the coming years.
